T-Flame: Fire-Resistive Glass Designed to Be Seen Through, Not Seen

  • August 24, 2026

For decades, achieving higher levels of fire protection often meant accepting a visual compromise. Fire-rated assemblies could be heavier, thicker and more visually intrusive than conventional architectural glazing.

That does not have to be the case.

Tecfire T-Flame is a high-performance fire-resistive glass engineered to provide critical life-safety protection while maintaining exceptional transparency and visual clarity.

The objective is simple: allow architects to design open, light-filled environments without making the required fire barrier the dominant visual element of the space. Tecfire describes T-Flame as offering outstanding optical clarity while being up to 50% lighter than alternative fire-resistive glazing solutions, depending on the configuration.

Fire Protection You Can See Through

One of the most noticeable characteristics of T-Flame is actually what you do not notice. Under normal conditions, the glass remains transparent and has an appearance much closer to conventional architectural glazing than many people expect from a high-performance fire-resistive product. Tecfire specifically designed its T-Flame systems to provide clear views while maintaining the fire-resistive performance required for demanding architectural applications. That distinction matters.

Modern architecture increasingly relies on transparency to connect spaces, distribute daylight and create a greater sense of openness. Corridors, stairwells, atriums, educational facilities, healthcare environments and commercial interiors can all require fire separation, but that separation does not necessarily need to become an opaque visual barrier. T-Flame allows the fire-rated assembly to become part of the architecture rather than an interruption to it. The result is a system that can provide substantial fire protection while preserving:

  • Clear sightlines
  • Natural daylight
  • Visual connection between adjacent spaces
  • Open architectural environments
  • Clean, contemporary aesthetics
In the right framing system, the objective is for the occupant to experience the architecture first—and the fire protection only when it is needed.

Fire-Resistive, Not Simply Fire-Protective

The distinction between fire-protective and fire-resistive glazing is important. Fire-protective glazing is primarily designed to resist flames and smoke for a specified period. Fire-resistive glazing goes significantly further by also limiting the transfer of dangerous radiant and conductive heat through the assembly.

T-Flame is Tecfire’s fire-resistive glazing technology. During normal building operation, its transparent construction preserves visibility through the opening. During a fire event, the heat-absorbing materials within fire-resistive glazing react to extreme temperature exposure, creating an insulating barrier intended to restrict the passage of flames, smoke and dangerous heat. That performance allows appropriately tested T-Flame assemblies to function as part of a fire-resistance-rated barrier rather than simply an opening protective.

T-Flame Technical Overview

T-Flame is available in configurations supporting 45-, 60-, 90- and 120-minute fire-resistance ratings. Tecfire publishes separate specification and detail information for each rating.

Product Type:
Fire-resistive architectural glazing
Available Fire Ratings:
  • 45 minutes
  • 60 minutes
  • 90 minutes
  • 120 minutes

Primary Performance Standard:
ASTM E119 fire-resistance testing is among the principal North American standards applicable to Tecfire’s fire-resistive systems. Tecfire also references UL 263 and NFPA 80 among the standards used in evaluating fire-resistive glazing assemblies.

Fire Performance:
Designed to resist the passage of flames and smoke while also limiting dangerous heat transfer for the rated duration when installed as part of an approved fire-resistive assembly.

Optical Performance:
High-transparency glazing designed to provide an appearance similar to conventional architectural glass under normal conditions.

Weight:
Up to 50% lighter than alternative fire-resistive glazing solutions, depending on product configuration. Reduced glazing weight can provide practical benefits during transportation, handling and installation.

Applications:
T-Flame can be incorporated into tested fire-rated doors, walls, partitions and other architectural glazing systems.

Interior and Exterior Options:
Fire-resistive glazing can be configured for exterior applications where required, with appropriate insulating-glass configurations used to protect the fire-resistive glazing from environmental and UV exposure.

Additional Options:
Depending on the tested configuration, Tecfire systems can incorporate characteristics such as thermal insulation, Low-E performance, laminated components, acoustic performance and UV protection. Final configurations must be evaluated against the applicable tested and listed assembly. Glass thickness, maximum tested dimensions, visible-light transmission and other technical values vary according to the required fire rating, application and assembly configuration and should be verified using the applicable T-Flame technical data and listing.

Designed as Part of a Complete System

Fire-resistive glass does not perform independently of the assembly surrounding it. The framing, glazing materials, hardware and installation methodology are all critical components of the tested system. Tecfire integrates T-Flame with its fire-rated aluminum and steel framing platforms to create complete glazed assemblies engineered around both performance and architectural appearance. This system approach allows Tecfire to combine clear T-Flame glazing with narrow-profile framing, maximizing the amount of visible glass and helping the finished assembly resemble a conventional architectural glass system rather than a traditional fire barrier.

Safety Without the Visual Compromise

The value of T-Flame goes beyond passing a fire test. It gives architects greater freedom to place transparency where building codes require protection. A fire-rated corridor can remain visually connected to the surrounding building. A stair enclosure can receive more natural light. A healthcare or educational environment can maintain visibility between spaces. A large glazed wall can provide compartmentation without replacing openness with an opaque barrier. That is where high-performance fire-resistive glazing changes architecture.

The safest glass in the building does not necessarily have to look like safety glass.

With T-Flame, Tecfire combines tested fire-resistive performance, reduced weight and exceptional optical clarity in a glazing solution designed to protect the architecture without overpowering it.

Protection when it matters. Transparency every other moment.
